So, I'm taking my I Love To Draw Cats portrait service to POP Cats 2019 in Austin, Texas May 4-5! My plan is to create a portrait print of a celebrity cat and give it away in a random drawing from people who sign up at my booth (#152). To decide which cat to pick, I ran a poll among the members of a Facebook group to which I belong, called Cat versus Human. The winner was the character, Salem Saberhagen, the warlock-turned-cat in the series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" from the 90's and the new Netflix series, "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."
Salem is a sleek black cat whose inky black coat has required me to pull out the markers. Surprisingly, Sharpie brand markers take colored pencil overlays significantly better than any art markers I have on hand! I'll go over the marker with the pencils to lay in highlights and areas of sheen on his fur.
Today's progress started with outlining the contours of the drawing and inking in the silhouette. I laid in the ink following the direction of cat fur. I can't wait to add the colored pencil details!
